After five months of arduous efforts towards security beef ups in Iraq that includes additional troops, increased street patrolling, crackdown on militants… still the streets are gutted with unidentified bodies. Every US effort to quell violence and to sooth the tumultuous country has shattered, still Bush stands ridiculously adamant with his policy to continue in Iraq.

Troops as well as civilian casualties fluctuate in Iraq but still it prevails which clearly reveal the fact that – civilian, US troops’ and Iraqi police casualties have not subsided – but indeed, have woefully increased to put a question mark on Bush’s policy to deal with the crises in Iraq.

This turmoil has led the county to a disaster and unprecedented mayhem. Iraqi socio-political scenario has deteriorated noticeably since US invasion in 2003 and ranks second, after Sudan, in the list of world’s most unstable countries. Where now Bush wants to lead the country?

Present upheavals lead to a scenario wherefrom return seems unlikely - but the violent break up is imminent. US presence is one of the reasons for the violence in Iraq. When will US realize that it’s not only difficult but impossible, indeed, to stay in a country against the wishes of its natives.

Finally, it’s evident that US has failed to maintain peace. Therefore, there is neither reason nor credibility to continue with ‘war on terror’ - that is nowhere successful to end terror, whether it’s Afghanistan or Iraq. Nevertheless, what I think is – either change policies to deal with the crises or plan gradual withdrawal - covertly if not overtly.
